Semi-chisel cutters have a radiused corner where the top plate meets the side plate. They scoop wood rather than shearing it with a sharp 90° corner. That profile stays sharp longer in soil, bark, stored logs and frost, and it is more tolerant when filing by hand.

How to choose the right loop

1. Read pitch and gauge from the bar or old chain (.325", 3/8", .404" or 1/4"; .043–.063").
2. Count drive links. Do not order one link unless you are buying a reel.
3. Stay in this collection if you want the rounded cutter. Skip and full-skip options are less common in true semi-chisel; most loops here are full-comp.

Who this collection is for

Buy semi-chisel if you cut firewood from dirty or stored logs, work around soil and grit, want longer gaps between sharpening, or prefer a calmer chain than full chisel. This is the go to chain for general cutting, clearance and mixed UK hardwood/softwood.

Do not use this collection for ripping slabs along the grain unless the chain is filed at about 10°. Use the ripping range for milling.
