If you are looking to getting into chainsaw carving please read this post on arbtalk here.

Chainsaw carving is NOT like standard chainsaw use – ie. you can’t simply strap on a carving bar and do carving – we broke our first carving bar and shortly after broke the chainsaw… please learn by our mistakes! We did not follow the below..

  1. Chain is SLACK – no where near as tight as a standard bar, it should be hanging off the underside of the bar
  2. R7 bars running 1/4 .043 are SUPER delicate and only used for very fine detail work
  3. Carving is mainly done with the saw at half throttle [or thereabouts] – very different from standard work where most cuts are with full throttle
  4. Carving bars take longer to bed in – run them gently and ensure they don’t get hot for the first couple of tanks [which means carve for a minute – rest a minute – carve for a minute = rest for a minute… ]
  5. Take the heels of the cutter teeth to reduce friction [Stihl 3661-13RMS already has this feature] but click here to see more on this.

Made from formulated, cold rolled, annealed, heat treated, surface ground, and stress relieved steel. This provides the best possible characteristics of wear resistance, strength, durability, straightness and elasticity.

The Cannon SuperBar power plus profile maximizes cutting power and chain speed while reducing damage from loose chain.

A precision ground groove to within .002″ means straighter cuts. Each groove is individually centered for even rail wear and superior durability. This increases rail strength and reduces damage from pinches. Also, if the chain rides exactly square to the rail, the result is smoother and straighter cutting. Milling marks, commonly found in the competitions bars, are eliminated. Thus, the groove is tighter and sloppy chain travel occurs much less.

Cannon SuperBars have flame tempered rails that are hardened to 5 points more than the tie straps on the chain for much longer bar life. This hardening penetrates deep to allow for multiple bar repairs and rebuilds. With the chain running straight and true, the result is a faster and smoother cut.

This particular bar and chain I use daily on Husqvarna 550xp running 1/4 pitch drive rings. They need to handle a lot of work day in day out, and while heavier than other carve bars, have a very solid direct ‘feel’ and I trust them with the power that goes through them. Great long life comparatively too.
